Tourism Day in Ukraine Date in the current year: September 27, 2024

Tourism Day in Ukraine On September 27, the employees of Ukrainian travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, and other organizations in the travel industry celebrate their national professional day. Tourism Day in Ukraine coincides with World Tourism Day.

Tourism Day in Ukraine was initiated by the State Tourism Committee. The initiative was supported by the country’s second president Leonid Kuchma, who signed a decree establishing National Tourism Day on September 21, 1998. The date of the holiday was chosen to coincide with World Tourism Day, established by the UN World Tourism Organization in 1979.

Like the rest of professional holidays in Ukraine, Tourism Day is not a non-working holiday, unless it falls on a weekend. On the occasion of the holiday, many Ukrainian tourist organizations hold special events aimed to popularize domestic tourism, as well as to improve Ukraine’s image as a tourist destination in the eyes of foreign travelers.

Ukraine’s tourism industry is generally considered to be underdeveloped, but the country does have certain advantages, including low prices, visa-free access for most European citizens, and plenty of breathtaking sights. Popular tourist destinations include the country’s capital of Kyiv, Western Ukraine with its unique architecture and mountain landscapes, Black Sea resorts, the ski resort of Bukovel in the Carpathian Mountains, and more.
