National Book Day in Iran National Book Day in Iran is celebrated on the 24th day of the month of Aban (November 14 in the Gregorian calendar). It kicks off the annual National Book Week. The main task of National Book Day and Week is to develop a reading culture in Iran and to promote Iranian literature internationally.

National Book Week in Iran was initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance that is responsible for developing state policy in the sphere of culture, art and the media. The initiative was supported by Iranian National Commission for UNESCO. The event aims to strengthen the cultural backbone of the nation by encouraging people of different ages to read.

National Book Day and Week in Iran are marked with book fairs and exhibitions, reading contests, presentations of new books, award ceremonies for the best publishers and authors, various events held at libraries and schools throughout the country, and more.

During National Book Week, special attention is paid to the popularization of reading among children and teenagers. A lot of events and activities for young audiences are organized by the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (Kanoon). Founded in 1965, the institution strives to promote literacy and culture through a network of traveling libraries.
