International Read an eBook Day Date in the current year: September 18, 2024

International Read an eBook Day International Read an eBook Day, also known as simply Read an eBook Day, is celebrated on September 18 every year. It was initiated by OverDrive, Inc., an American company that specializes in the digital distribution of eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video titles.

OverDrive was grounded in 1986 in Cleveland, Ohio. It initially specialized in converting analog media to digital formats, such as floppy disks and compact dicks. As soon as the Internet became a reliable form of digital media distribution, the company moved its services online and opened Content Reserve, a digital repository for publishers to distribute eBooks, audiobooks, and other downloadable media.

OverDrive launched Read an eBook Day in 2014 to promote reading on digital devices. eBooks are a great invention. They enable us to never part with other favorite stories and to read them anytime, anywhere. With an e-reader, smartphone or tablet, you can enjoy a great book whether you’re lounging on a couch in your living room or taking a plane trip. They help to save space in your suitcase or carry-on and can be accessed simply by clicking a button.

If you want to participate in International Read an eBook Day, all you need to do is lay the paper book you’re currently reading aside and start reading an eBook instead. You are also welcome to share your favorite book titles and stories about why you love eBooks on social media. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #eBookLove so that other eBook lovers can find your post.
