International Black Sea Action Day Date in the current year: October 31, 2024

International Black Sea Action Day The countries of the Black Sea annually celebrate International Black Sea Action Day on October 31. Creation of this observance is connected with approving the Black Sea Strategic Action Plan in 1996.

On April 21, 1992 the representatives of the countries of the Black Sea, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria and Romania gathered in Bucharest to sign the Convention on the Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution. On October 31, 1996 the member-states of the convention signed the Black Sea Strategic Action Plan, that became the foundation for the protection of the sea from the pollution. The plan was revised by the ministers of the six countries in Sofia, Bulgaria on April 17, 2009.

Since 1996 the date of signing of the plan is annually commemorated in the six member-states of the convention. Regional events are organized to promote the importance of protection of the Black Sea among people and highlight its importance for economical development of its regions. Millions of people live near the Black Sea and it's important to find joint solutions in order to protect their unique heritage.
