Engineer's Day in Romania All Romanian engineers annually celebrate their professional holiday, known as Engineer's Day, on September 14. This holiday was officially established in 2000.

In 2000, the government of Romania designated September 14 to be a special day, honoring the hard work that engineers do to build nation and modernize the regions of Romania. Every year special events and festive ceremonies are organized by the Ministry of Education and Research in cooperation with the Technical Academy, thе association of engineers, to celebrate the holiday. These events are usually held in the form of a symbolic meeting.

Profession of the engineer has a rich history and long-running traditions in Romania. On June 15, 1894 the first Technical Corps were founded in Romania and they gave birth to the current profession. The first engineer societies appeared in Romania only during the second half of the 19th century, but they didn't last for a long time.

The first long-running society of engineers, Polytechnic Society, was established in 1881 in the presence of King Carol I, who inaugurated the first railroad running from Buzău to Mărășești. This was the first railroad build by Romanian engineers only.
