Constitution Day in India Date in the current year: November 26, 2024

Constitution Day in India Constitution Day is celebrated in India every year on November 26. This is not a public holiday, but it's a widespread celebration across the country.

The current constitution of India was drafted after declaration of independence of India from the United Kingdom. The drafting committee was working for two years, starting from the mid of 1947. Finally, the constitution was adopted on November 26, 1949. It came into force only on January 26, 1950.

The Constitution of India is a unique document. The thing is that it's the longest written document of any sovereign country in the world. And it also took 2 years, 11 months and 17 days to pass the document. The Constitution of India is written in two languages: the original was drafted in English, and after its adoption the translation to Hindi was also made. Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was responsible for the translation, and he's widely regarded as the father of the Constitution of India.

Indians honor their constitution, that is why they celebrate the anniversary of its adoption. Although celebration of this day isn’t established on the national level, local authorities and volunteers organize festivals, parades, marches, meetings, competitions etc to celebrate the event.
