Tree Day in North Macedonia Date in the current year: March 12, 2024
The history of Tree Day in North Macedonia started in 2008, when the activist Boris Trajanov proposed and led the campaign Tree Day – Plant Your Future. The main reason for establishment of this event was replanting Macedonian forests after extensive wild fires over the past two summers of 2006 and 2007. The first event took place on March 12 and more than 2 million saplings were planted around the country. 200,000 people, that is 10% of population of the Republic of North Macedonia, took part in this event.
The second tree planting event took place on November 13 and since then it's annually organized twice a year. Moreover, celebration of many other holidays in North Macedonia is also marked by planting trees. Their quantity is smaller, however, it's clear that Boris Trajanov started a very important and popular tradition in North Macedonia.
