Anniversary of the Cubana Bombing in Cuba Date in the current year: October 6, 2024

Anniversary of the Cubana Bombing in Cuba The people of Cuba annually observe the Anniversary of the Cubana Bombing on October 6. This observance commemorates the victims of state terrorism conducted against Cuba.

A Cuban flight from Barbados to Jamaica was brought down by bomb explosion on October 6, 1976. All 73 people on board died. The passengers of the flight included Cubans, Guyanese and North Koreans (the latter were the diplomats heading to Cuba).

The terrorist attack was plotted by anti-Castro Cuban exile groups. They brought two time bombs on board of plane in Trinidad and left them in the cabin. The terrorists got off the plane in Barbados.

In 2005 the CIA declassified documents testified, that the CIA possessed information about the terrorist attack and didn't do anything to prevent the disaster. Also President of Cuba accused the US Government of being an accomplice to the attack.

Mourning ceremonies for the victims of the Cuban bombing annually take place on October 6. Authorities and people lay flowers and wreaths at the memorial of these victims.
