National Night Out in the USA National Night Out is a special event that is held in the USA every year on the first Tuesday in August. This event was started in 1984 in order to make communities safer.

Only two states, Florida and Texas, are allowed to move the event to the first Tuesday in October to avoid hot weather.

National Night Out is organized by block watchers, non-profit organizations, companies and police departments. The events vary from simple backyard parties to full-scale festivals, like in Columbus, Ohio. The festival organized there includes live music, food and entertainment.
