King Father's Birthday in Cambodia Date in the current year: October 31, 2024

Norodom Sihanouk was born on October 31, 1922. He became King of Cambodia in 1941 and ruled the country till 1955, when he abdicated in favor of his father. He became Prime Minister of Cambodia, in 1970 he was deposed and went to exile. Sihanouk returned to Cambodia only in 1991 and again became King in 1993. His reign lasted till 2004, when he had to abdicate the throne in favor of his son, Norodom Sihamoni.

Due to health problems Sihanouk needed treatment in China, where he lived his last years. He was diagnosed cancer, diabetes and hypertension. He died on October 15, 2012 from a heart attack at the age of 89.

King Father's Birthday was a public holiday till 2012. After his death a new holiday was established to honor the birthday of a new king and now it falls on May 14. However, Cambodians remember their late king and his birthday anniversary is observed as a memorial day.
