Birthday of Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway Date in the current year: August 19, 2024

Birthday of Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway August 19 is an official flag flying day in Norway because it is the birthday of Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway, the wife of Crown Prince Haakon.

Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby was born on August 19, 1973 to journalist Sven O. Høiby and Marit Tjessem. By her own admission, she experienced a rebellious phase before she met Haakon. She has a son named Marius Borg Høiby from a previous relationship.

Mette-Marit first met Crown Prince Haakon at a party during the Quart Festival, the largest rock festival in Norway. However, they didn't begin dating then. Their paths were to cross again years later, when Mette-Marit already was a single mother.

They began dating around the end of 2009 and got engaged on December 1, 2000. Some Norwegians fund Haakon's choice of a spouse questionable because of Mette-Marit's rebellious phase and the fact that she was a single mother. Her being a commoner was not a problem as Queen Sonja of Norway was a commoner, too.

Crown Prince Haakon married Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby on August 25, 2001. She became Crown Princess of Norway and a member of the Royal Family. The couple has two children together, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.
