Idic15 Awareness Day in Canada Date in the current year: October 15, 2024
Chromosome 15q11.2-13.1 Duplication Syndrome (or Dup15q) is a name to the known genetic cause of autism. This condition is caused by duplication or partial duplication of chromosome 15. The genetic testing is available in many areas, however, due to the lack of medical awareness many people in Canada and around the world are born with this syndrome.
The non-profit organization Idic15 Canada started observation of Idic15 Awareness Day in order to draw more attention to the needs of families with Dup15q and research for this decease. The organization supports all individuals and their families with the syndrome and provides information and professionals who work with them. The organization also works on international collaboration with specific clinics around the world.
