Public Prosecutor Office Professionals Day in Russia Date in the current year: January 12, 2024

The date of January 12 wasn't chosen randomly. On January 12, 1722, Peter the Great signed a decree that appointed the General Prosecutor. Today this date is considered as the birthday of the Office of Public Prosecutor.

According to the decree, college prosecutors were to report to the General Prosecutor, and he got all major duties and authorities of Senate supervision. Pavel Yaguzhinskiy was an outstanding General Prosecutor during the reign of Peter the Great. Yaguzhinskiy was so much of importance for government, that they said he played second fiddle to Peter the Great.
