Arbor Day in Costa Rica Date in the current year: June 15, 2024

Arbor Day in Costa Rica Costa Ricans annually celebrate Arbor Day (Día del Árbol) on June 15. Many trees planting related events are organized across the country. All adults and children are encouraged to participate.

Arbor Day originates in the USA and this holiday spread to other countries around the world. Costa Rica didn't stay aside and then-President of Costa Rica Alfredo Gonzalez established Arbor Day on May 25, 1915. Since then all adults and school children annually plant trees to recover the parks and forests.

Many environmental organizations of Costa Rica organize long-running projects to observe Arbor Day. These projects are aimed at replanting trees in different places around Costa Rica. Many of the parks were seriously affected and they can't provide shelter for birds, animals and insects. Replacing sick trees and planting native trees help restore natural biodiversity.

Planting trees is not the only one event, that is organized in Costa Rica on Arbor Day. Everyone also can attend the conferences on the environmental management and the forest ecosystems.
