Publishing, Printing and Book Distribution Workers' Day in Ukraine Date in the current year: May 25, 2024

Publishing, Printing and Book Distribution Workers' Day in Ukraine The last Saturday in May is Publishing, Printing and Book Distribution Workers' Day in Ukraine. This professional holiday was established by President Leonid Kuchma in 1999.

This professional holiday was created to acknowledge the significant contribution of the employees of publishing and printing complex of Ukraine to educational, cultural and scientific development of the nation. This holiday is observed by the workers, whose activity is directly or non-directly connected with publishing, printing and book distribution.

Ivan Fedorov is considered to be the first printer on the territory of Ukraine. He founded a printing house in Lviv and published the second edition of the liturgical book Acts and Epistles of the Apostles (also known as the Apostle) in 1574. Another theory states, that printing in Ukraine existed in the 15th century, and Ivan Fedorov only revived it, but it lacks evidence.

Nowadays almost 6,000 companies work in the field of publishing and printing, they employ about 40,000 people. These employees celebrate their professional holiday on the last Saturday in May.
