National Tree Planting Day in Mongolia Date in the current year: May 11, 2024

National Tree Planting Day in Mongolia Many countries around the world celebrate only one Arbor Day during the year. Mongolia is one of the few countries, that celebrates National Tree Planting Day twice a year. The tree planting events are organized on the second Saturday in May and October respectively.

The first National Tree Planting Day was celebrated in Mongolia in 2010. President of Mongolia signed a decree proclaiming the holiday on April 14, 2010 and since then the tree-planting related events are organized twice a year.

President of Mongolia, Prime Minister and other top officials actively participate in celebration of this day and annually plant trees at different places of Mongolia. The citizens are also encouraged to plant as many trees as possible, thus contribute to restoration of the forests. But planting trees is not enough to improve the environmental situation in Mongolia. Taking care of the planted trees is of no less importance, because only about 65% of all planted saplings survive.
