July Morning in Bulgaria Date in the current year: July 1, 2024

Tradition of July Morning was born in the 1980s, when a hit July Morning by rock band Uriah Heep became very popular in Bulgaria. The hippies of Bulgaria started celebration of July Morning in Port of Varna, the largest sea complex port of Bulgaria, but later it spread to other places on beaches.

Many people travel on the last day of June to the Black Sea to see a sunrise. There are no special rituals, people gather around campfires, play music and share drinks. They wait to see the first sun rays of a new day. The festival is very popular among students, since July 1 is the first day of the summer break in most high schools and everyone has a good reason to organize a late night/early morning party.

There were many attempts to commercialize celebration of July Morning, but they all failed, mostly due to the lack of single location for celebration of this event.
