State Language Day in Tajikistan Date in the current year: October 5, 2024

State Language Day in Tajikistan State Language Day is an official holiday in the Republic of Tajikistan. It was originally observed on July 22, but in 2009 the celebration was moved to October 5.

The state language of Tajikistan is Tajik. It is a variety of the Persian language. State Language Day was established in 1990, following the independence of Tajikistan from the Soviet Union. The date of July 22 was chosen to commemorate the Law “On Language” adopted on that day in 1989. This law designated the Tajik language as the official language of Tajikistan.

However, it was impossible to celebrate State Language Day properly at schools and other educational institutions as the holiday fell during the summer break. On October 5, 2009, the new law “On the State Language of the Republic of Tajikistan” was adopted, and President Emomalii Rahmon moved the date of the holiday to October 5.

According to this law, Tajik is the state language of Tajikistan used in all spheres of political, social, economic, scientific, and cultural life of the Republic of Tajikistan. Every citizen of Tajikistan must know the state language.

State Language Day is marked with festive activities and events. It is worth noting, that it coincides with the birthday of President Emomalii Rahmon.
