Kyrgyz Language Day in Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyz Language Day is annually celebrated in Kyrgyzstan on September 23. This holiday was established to celebrate the adoption of a law on language of the Kyrgyz SSR in 1989.

The law, that was adopted on September 23, 1989, officially recognized the Kyrgyz language as the state language in Kyrgyzstan. The law also guaranteed the right to chose the language of communication and free development of other national languages, used in the republic. This law expired on April 2, 2004 after adoption of a new law on state language.

The law on the state language of the Kyrgyz SSR made further development of the Kyrgyz language possible. It also contributed the raise of national identity of the Kyrgyz people.

Celebration of Kyrgyz Language Day has no official status, however, this day is very important for the people of Kyrgyzstan. President and Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan deliver congratulatory speeches. Government organized various events and times publishing of Kyrgyz books and dictionaries.
