Although Vukovar fell, the battle played an important role in the outcome of the war. The battle led to the raise of patriotism among the Croats, who finally won the war. Since 1999, when the parliament of Croatia adopted a decision proclaiming the memorial day, the fallen soldiers are appropriately honored with dignity.
