Combine 1 1/2 cups milk, 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter, and 1/2 tsp salt. Beat until smooth. Beat in 3 eggs (one at a time) and stir in 2/3 cup pitted fresh cherries. Set aside for 15 minutes.
Grease or butter 12 muffin cups and place in oven to preheat at 450 °F. Carefully remove from oven and fill each cup with batter about 3/4 full. Bake at 450 °F for 20 minutes, then reduce the heat 350 °F and continue baking until golden brown and puffed.
