Arbor Day in the Northern Mariana Islands Date in the current year: October 1, 2024
The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) is one of the two territories of the USA with the status of Commonwealth. The islands are situated in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. The Commonwealth is formed by 15 islands. Many of the islands are of volcanic origin with active volcanoes. The volcano activity affects the forests of the islands, that's why an annual event of tree planting is organized by the government of CNMI.
Annually the Governor of the islands issues a proclamation of Arbor Day. This event takes place during the last full week of September, commonly on Saturday. However, the tree planting events are organized only on October 1. Arbor Day isn't just a single-day celebration. It starts an Arbor Month, that lasts till the end of October. A number tree-related events for adults and children are organized during this month.
