Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day Date in the current year: April 25, 2024

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a non-profit educational program that revolves around parents taking their children to work for a day. In the United States, the event is held on the fourth Thursday in April.

In 1992, the Ms. Foundation for Women launched Take Our Daughters to Work Day. The first event was held on April 22, 1993. Schools across the United States were provided with literature and other materials for incorporating career exploration in their curricula on the day before or after Take Our Daughters to Work Day.

In 2003, the program was expanded to include boys. However, most companies that took part in the program had allowed both girls and boys to participate since the beginning. This change allowed both girls and boys to explore careers, contributing to fighting with gender stereotypes.

In 2007, the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day program became its own separate foundation. It is no longer organized by the Ms. Foundation for Women, although Gloria Steinem (one of the Foundation's founders) is a member of the program's board of directors.

On the fourth Thursday in April, many employees across the USA invite their children to work. The program also encourages them to invite children from shelters and residential programs.
