Book Giving Day in Armenia Date in the current year: February 19, 2024

Book Giving Day in Armenia Armenia annually celebrates Book Giving Day. This holiday was resumed in 2008 under the initiative of Levon Ananyan, the late Chairman of Writers Union of Armenia.

Book Giving Day is celebrated in Armenia on birth anniversary of Hovhannes Tumanyan, an Armenian poet and public activist. He wrote numerous poems, novels, fables, critical and journalistic articles, ballads, many of them became the masterpieces of Armenian literature.

Numerous memorials are erected to honor Tumanyan in Armenia. Two museums of Tumanyan are opened (one in his birthplace and another one in Yerevan). The house of Tumanyan was purchased by Armenian government from Georgian owner to presumably establish a new museum there.

Different events are organized to celebrate Book Giving Day. Every one can visit museums in Yerevan and some other cities in exchange for a science-fiction or fiction book. The theaters prepare special performances to celebrate this day. Literary readings are also common for Book Giving Day.
