Air Force Day in Ukraine Date in the current year: August 4, 2024

Air Force Day in Ukraine Air Force Day is a professional holiday in the Armed Forces of Ukraine celebrated on the first Sunday in August. It was officially established by President Viktor Yuschenko in 2007.

Ukrainian Air Force is a branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was formed in 1992, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Sadly, the air force of Ukraine has suffered from chronic underinvestment ever since, but this does not prevent it from being the seventh largest air force in Europe. Ukraine even possesses its own aircraft manufacturer, Antonov State Company.

Originally Ukrainian military aviators were honored during Ukrainian Aviation Day celebrated on the last Saturday in August. In 2007, President Viktor Yuschenko decided that civil aviators and military aviators should have separate professional holidays. So he established Ukrainian Air Force Day to be celebrated on the first Sunday in August.

Air Force Day in Ukraine is usually marked with official speeches, spectacular airshows, colorful parades and open-air concerts. It is not a non-working holiday, but it always falls on a weekend, so most people do not work on this day anyways and are able to participate in the festivities.
