Knowledge Day in Azerbaijan Date in the current year: September 15, 2024

The post-Soviet countries celebrate Knowledge Day on September 1. This day marks the first day of the fall and the beginning of the new schooling year. However, this holiday is observed in Azerbaijan on September 15, because it's the day, when schooling begins. These changes were made by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in 2004 and he signed a corresponding decree.

Various events are organized to celebrate Knowledge Day in Azerbaijan. Children go to school to participate in a celebratory assembly.

Children go to primary school at the age of six. The educational system includes preschool education, elementary school, secondary education, professional education, post-graduate education, master's and doctorate degrees.

Recently government of Azerbaijan started pay more attention to the schools of a new type, that should provide a better preparation for studying at university.
