National Gingerbread Day Most people are familiar with gingerbread house, that is a typical Christmas dish. But gingerbread can come in number of different shapes and forms. June 5 is National Gingerbread Day, that is celebrated by people across the country.

Gingerbread has been known for ages. It is believed, that the first recipe of gingerbread was brought to Europe in 992 by Armenian monk. He lived there for 7 years until his death and taught French priests cooking gingerbread. Gingerbread became popular across Europe, but spices were always expensive, that is why not everyone could afford this simple dessert at that time. Gingerbread biscuits were sold in the 17th-century Europe in monasteries, pharmacies and even town square farmers markets. But it became widely available only in the 18th century.

Gingerbread cookies can be baked at any time of the year, that is why you can enjoy them even in June. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make your dessert even better. Happy National Gingerbread Day!
