Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies Day in Azerbaijan Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies Day is celebrated in Azerbaijan every year on December 6. This professional day was established by President Ilham Aliyev in 2006 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of establishment of the telephone communication in Azerbaijan.

In February, 1881 the Nobel Brothers society was given a permission to lay the first telephone line in Baku. It was launched on December 6, 1881, connecting the headquarters of the society with the houses of the head engineer and the chairman. The length of the line was 3.7 mi (6 km).

The construction of the first Azerbaijani central communication network began in 1886. The development of the post and telegraph services were the main targets of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic, that existed from 1918 to 1920.

The active development of the field of communication was started in Azerbaijan after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In 2004 the Ministry of Communications of Azerbaijan was abolished and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies was created on its basis.
