The Vienna Comic Con is primarily designed for pop culture fans from Central and Eastern Europe. Those from Western Europe often prefer the Paris Comic Con, although some fans attend both events because each offers a unique program and has its own guest list. Just like its name suggests, the Vienna Comic Con is held in the capital of Austria.
VIECC’s program is similar to that of other fan conventions. The organizers aim to create the ultimate fan experience, spanning the latest and greatest from the world of comics, sci-fi and fantasy films and television shows, anime and manga, video games, toys and collectibles, and more. The convention features a large exhibitor area, panels, signings and photo-ops with celebrity guests, Artists Alley, fan meet-ups, and other events and activities.
VIECC offers its attendees a number of exclusive events, such as advance screenings of movies and TV shows, previews and sneak-peeks. For example, one of the highlights of VIECC 2015 was the premiere of Wienerland, the first Austrian television series made for the international market.
Each convention features special guests such as actors, filmmakers, comic book artists and writers, cosplayers, and YouTubers. For example, the inaugural Vienna Comic Con held in 2015 was visited by Neve McIntosh (Doctor Who), Natalia Tena (the Harry Potter film series, Game of Thrones), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Maze Runner), and others.
VIECC also hosts a cosplay contest. The winner of the VIECC Championship of Cosplay gets a chance to participate in the finale of the ReedPOP Global Championship of Cosplay held during the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2).
The Vienna Comic Con is held at Messe Wien, the city’s biggest trade fair and exhibition center. It hosts all events organized by Reed Exhibitions as well as other conventions, fairs, presentations, and corporate meetings.
