Marlborough is widely regarded as the cradle of the modern New Zealand wine industry. Varietals grown in Marlborough include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, and others. However, the region is most famous for Sauvignon Blanc. Many wine critics consider New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc the world’s best wine of this varietal. To cut a long story short, no wonder Marlborough hosts one of the best wine festivals in the country.
The Marlborough Wine & Food Festival showcases stunning wines produced by more than 50 local wineries. Some of the most popular varieties offered at the festival include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Wine pours come in two measures – a 47 ml tasting measure and a 120 ml glass measure. There are no bottle sales at the festival.
Alongside wine producers, the festival features local food producers offering a variety of delicious products including wild meats, cheese, raw and cooked seafood, frozen yogurt, soft drinks, freshly brewed coffee, gourmet ice creams, national dishes from around the world, delicious desserts, and more.
Of course, there’s an entertainment program as well. Plenty of exciting events and activities keep the attendees entertained all day long. They include live music performances on two stages (Main Stage and Acoustic Stage), cooking demonstrations featuring local and international chefs of great renown, wine & food masterclasses, contests and competitions, and more.
The festival is traditionally held at one of Marlborough’s vineyards in February. Admittance is strictly 18+.
