KaZantip, also known as the Republic of KaZantip and Republic Z, was the largest and most famous EDM festival in former Soviet republics. In 2010, KaZantip began to host water and beach sports competitions called Z-Games. KaZantip was discontinued following the annexation of Crimea by Russia, although there were unsuccessful attempts to revive it in Georgia and Cambodia. However, Z-Games continued to be held as an independent music and sports festival. The first festival took place from August 20–24, 2015 in Odesa.
In just a couple of years, Z-Games has become one of the largest sports and music festivals in East Europe. It is a mix of quality live music, active and extreme sports, and the spirit of KaZantip that hasn’t been lost or forgotten. The festival's music program combines live concerts and DJ sets.
Z-Games offers quite an impressive line-up that features both Ukrainian and international acts. For example, the 2015 festival was headlined by Xzibit. Notable artists and bands that have performed at Z-Games include Tesla Boy, Hardkiss, TomatoJaws, Gortchitza, Pianoboy, TNMK, O.Torvald, Brutto, and many others. Besides, the festival features up-and-coming Ukrainian musicians, giving them a chance to perform in front of a big audience and maybe even get their big break.
Along with great music, the festival program includes sports competitions, demonstrations and workshops. Sports featured at the festival include skateboarding, MTB and BMX, rollerblading, surfing, skimboarding, bouldering (a form of rock climbing), slacklining, free running and parkour, break dance, frisbee, and more.
Z-Games is one of the largest open-air summer festivals in East Europe. Every year, it attracts over 10,000 participants and visitors. It’s a must attend event for those who love good music, extreme sports and beach parties that last until the wee hours of the morning.
