Every autumn the Buda Castle hosts many festivals, that attract thousands of tourists from Hungary as well as other countries. And October in Hungary starts with the Budapest Pálinka and Sausage Festival (Budavari Palinka es Kolbaszfesztival). This is the festival of traditional pálinka and sausages, that go well with each other.

Pálinka is traditional Hungarian fruit brandy, that is made of fermented fruit mash and then distilled. The name of pálinka is protected as a geographical indication, that’s why only fruit brandy made in Hungary can be called “pálinka”.

Hundreds of Hungarian distilleries participate in this festival, providing every visitor with an opportunity to taste their new pálinkas. And since pálinka really goes well with different local sausages, the festival is also attended by the sausage producers. They grill their sausages to give them tasty smell, that goes so well with the fruity smell and taste of pálinka.

The Budapest Pálinka and Sausage Festival is one of the favorite autumn events in Budapest. Many tourists head to the city, because they know that they will be able to taste the best pálinka and sausages ever. Apart from tasting the visitors of the festival can participate in numerous activities and events that were prepared for their entertainment. These events include music concerts, dance performances etc.

The quantity of pálinka and sausages you can taste at the festival is unlimited, however, you need to pay for that. When you purchase your entrance admission (that can be one-day or three-day pass), you get one tasting glass. Also you need to have the hellopay card, that is a cash-free means of payment at the festival.

The Budapest Pálinka and Sausage Festival is a family friendly event. You can take children with you and they will enjoy tasty sausages. Children under 14 are free to enter and they must be accompanied by adults.
