The Turku Medieval Market (Turun keskiaikaiset markkinat) is the oldest and largest medieval-themed historical reenactment event in Finland. It has been held in the city of Turku each summer since 1996 and it attracts over 150,000 visitors every year.

The former capital of Finland, Turku is best known as the official Christmas City of Finland. Declaration of Christmas Peace is announced at the Old Great Square of Turku on every December 24 from the Brinkkala Hall balcony. But Christmas festivities aren’t the only exciting event in Turku. Thousands of people come to the city every summer to attend the Medieval Market of Turku.

The main organizer of the Turku Medieval Market is Turun Suurtorin keskiaika ry, a non-profit association whose main mission is to contribute to the knowledge and general interest in medieval history, archaeology and craftsmanship. The founding members of the association are several cultural organizations, including the Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova Museum.

The main venue of the Turku Medieval Market is the Old Great Square (Vanha Suurtori), a medieval market square located in the heart of the city. It hosts the main market with handicraft vendors donning medieval clothing and living history performances. There are exhibitions and performances at other venues such as the Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova Museum, Turku Cathedral and Turku Castle.

What does the Medieval Market of Turku has to offer? Here local craftsmen sell unique items and conduct live demonstrations. If you’ve always wanted to see how horseshoes are forged or how beer is brewed, here’s your chance to watch masters at work and ask them any questions you have. Food vendors at the market offer authentic medieval delicacies and exclusive beer brews.

The program also includes jousting tournaments, live performances by musicians, actors, dancers, jesters and circus artists, guided tours, lectures, workshops, activities area for children, and more. Costumed characters create an unforgettable atmosphere of a medieval town and keep attendees entertained.
