The inaugural Rose City Comic Con was held on September 8 and 9, 2012 at the DoubleTree hotel. It drew a little over 4000 attendees. The convention's guest of honor was Noah Hathaway, an American actor and former teen idol best known for portraying Boxey on the original TV series Battlestar Galactica and his role as Atreyu in The NeverEnding Story.
Attendance has been growing ever since. The second RCCC moved to the Oregon Convention Center and attracted 18,000, and the fourth convention had the attendance of 32,000. Over the year, many well-known actors have made an appearance at RCCC. They include Avery Brooks (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Big Bang Theory), Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), Sasha Roiz (Caprica, Grimm), Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek: The Original Series), Carrie Fisher (Star Wars), and many others.
Unlike many other pop culture conventions, Rose City Comic Con isn't owned by a large producer of multi-genre fan contentions, such as Wizard Entertainment or ReedPOP. It is organized by local pop culture fans who strive to make it a fun event with relaxing atmosphere where everyone would feel at home. Their goal is to provide attendees with a rewarding and family friendly experience.
While the primary focus of the convention is that of comic books, it also provides its attendees with access to gaming, science fiction and fantasy, cosplay, anime and manga, movies and television shows, and other pop culture genres end elements. Its programming features meetups and workshops with comic creators and industry professionals, panels, photo ops and autograph sessions with special guests, a costume contest and after-party, an artists' alley, and a bunch of other events typical for most multi-genre fan conventions.
