The Ravenna Balloon A-Fair is an annual hot air balloon festival held in the small city of Ravenna, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1979 to celebrate one of the city’s earliest industries, toy balloons produced by the Oak Rubber Company.

The Oak Rubber Company was the world’s largest manufacturer of toy balloons from the 1930s to the 1950s. The first celebration of the company’s contribution to Ravenna’s economy was organized in 1979 by a group of enterprising individuals who believed that the Oak Rubber Company was worth celebrating. What began as a relatively small event has grown into an exciting annual festival that offers various attractions for visitors of all ages. The event is held every fall, running over the third weekend in September.

Maybe the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair is not so big as some other hot air balloon festivals, but it is just as exciting. Every year it features about 15 brightly colored hot air balloons that lift off every afternoon. The launch is followed by a spectacular fireworks display that begins as soon as it gets dark.

Other highlights of the festival include two parades that take place in downtown Ravenna. The Children’s Parade kicks off the Fair on Thursday. It features several hundred children in bright costumes led by the Mini-Marshal. The Grand Parade is a spectacular 90-minute procession held on Saturday, rain or shine. It consists of various units that compete for the awards presented by a judge panel.

Alongside balloon launches, parades and firework displays, the program of the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair includes a community breakfast, the opening and awards ceremonies, live entertainment and demonstrations on several stages, craft booths, food and drink vendors, amusement rides, Children’s Alley and Stage, games and contests, helicopter rides, and much more.

The Ravenna Balloon A-Fair also hosts a series of events throughout the year, including the Kick Off Dance, the Grand Marshal Dinner, the Kick-Off Breakfast, the Halloween Dance, and the Annual Lighted Christmas Parade.
