Gergetoba in Georgia Gergetoba (or Day of Spiritual Love) is one of the oldest Christian holidays in Georgia. It's annually observed on July 16. The holiday was forgotten for many years, till it was revived by Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.

There are two Days of Love in Georgia. The secular Day of Love is observed on April 15. This holiday praises the feeling of love between man and woman. This holiday was initiated by Georgian showbiz-maker Besik Chubinidze and supported by the parliament of Georgia.

Day of Spiritual Love, observed on July 16, praises Christian love. This observance traditionally takes place in the Gergeti Trinity Church. It was build in the 14th century, but the religious service was forbidden by the Soviet regime. In 1980 the church was returned to the Georgian Orthodox Church.

This event revived celebration of Gergetoba. Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II personally served a solemn liturgy in the Gergeti Trinity Church in 1980. Since then a special service is held on Gergetoba in this church.
