International Day of Nowruz Date in the current year: March 21, 2024

International Day of Nowruz Celebration of Nowruz, Persian New Year, has a very long history. The holiday became so important for humanity, that the UN established International Day of Nowruz.

International Day of Nowruz was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010. The idea to create this holiday belongs to the Member States, that share Nowruz. Nowadays Nowruz is observed in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Albania, the countries of the former Yugoslav Republic, India, Kazakhstan, Iran, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.

Nowruz is one of the most important secular holidays for numerous peoples. This holiday celebrates the first day of the spring and the first day of a new year. It promotes important values of peace and solidarity between generations, families, reconciliations and neighborliness. The holiday largely contributes to cultural diversity of the world and friendship among peoples of different continents.

The UN General Assembly calls to learn the history and traditions of this ancient holiday, keep and develop its traditions and culture, raise awareness about Nowruz and spread knowledge about the heritage of the holiday by holding annual events devoted to it.
