World Development Information Day Date in the current year: October 24, 2024

World Development Information Day The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed October 24 to be World Development Information Day. This international observance was established on December 19, 1972.

Establishment of World Development Information Day on October 24 was timed to coincide with celebration of United Nations Day. Celebration of this day should draw public attention to the development problems, that still exist in many countries.

The idea of the measures for information dissemination and mobilization of public opinion related to problems of development and trade was expressed at the UN Conference on Trade and Development on May 17, 1972. The idea was supported and the General Assembly approved its resolution for introducing World Development Information Day.

Member countries of the UN annually organize various events that draw public attention to the problems and necessity of strengthening international cooperation. During the last years celebration is concentrated on the role of mobile phones and the Internet and their ability to provide necessary information for finding solutions to problems of development and trade.
