Men’s Grooming Day Date in the current year: August 16, 2024

Men’s Grooming Day Men’s Grooming Day, also known as National Men’s Grooming Day, is celebrated annually on the third Friday of August. It was created to encourage men around the globe to discover the power of proper grooming.

The term “men’s grooming” or “male grooming” refers to men paying attention to their own appearance and fashion. It has a long history that dates back to ancient times. For example, ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans were known for their grooming habits and used a variety of grooming tools and cosmetic products.

Societal attitudes towards men’s grooming and fashion have shifted multiple times throughout history, from conservative to more refined and elaborate, and vice versa. The late 20th and early 21st centuries saw a renewed interest in men’s grooming after almost a century of grooming minimalism focused on simplicity, efficiency, and functionality.

Modern men’s grooming isn’t just about looking presentable; its focus has been shifting more and more toward self-care, health, and confidence. Proper grooming not only elevates appearance but also helps to boost self-confidence and makes you feel really good about yourself. It also encourages good hygiene, improves skin health, enhances professional image, and helps to reduce stress.

Today, men’s grooming is a multi-billion-dollar industry that has been growing steadily over the past decades and shows no sign of stopping. It includes skincare, hair care, shaving or beard grooming, nail care, body care, and dental hygiene. Men these days are much less reluctant to use hair and skin care products than just a few decades ago, and some are even willing to resort to procedures like laser hair removal or Botox injections.

Some of the recent trends in grooming for men include the comeback of the beard and the increase in popularity of bread grooming products, the rise of barbershops, the popularity of natural and cruelty-free personal care products, the diversification of the grooming industry (i. e. products and services specifically designed for men of color), and more.

Men’s Grooming Day was founded in 2007 by American Crew, a company that supplies men’s grooming products. The main goal of the holiday is to encourage men to take grooming more seriously and upgrade their grooming game. In honor of the holiday, American Crew organizes special events that include complimentary professional hair styling sessions and grooming product sample giveaways.

There are many ways to celebrate Men’s Grooming Day. You can build a grooming routine if you don’t have one, upgrade your existing grooming routine, splurge on new grooming products, visit a barbershop and get a new haircut, book an appointment at a spa salon, or go shopping for clothes. And don’t forget to spread the word about the holiday on social media with the hashtag #MensGroomingDay.

If you’re not a man, you can still get involved with Men’s Grooming Day by having conversations about grooming with the men in your life, gifting them grooming products, teaching your son basic grooming and self-care habits, etc.
