World Kidney Day Date in the current year: March 14, 2024

World Kidney Day Every year millions of people around the globe celebrate World Kidney Day on the second Thursday in March. This awareness day was started in 2006 and since then it's popularity hasn't stopped growing.

World Kidney Day was established by the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations as a unique health awareness campaign drawing public attention to the importance of kidneys for our overall health and how our past ant present behavior harms the kidneys and causes various diseases.

Many kidney diseases are of secondary concern of the greater population. Lack of attention to kidneys leads to development of many different diseases, many of them are curable. However, prevention is better than cure, that's why annually the founders of World Kidney Day raise public awareness about kidneys by various global events, that take place in hundreds of places. These events vary and depend on cultural traditions of the country, and they may include free public screening or special marathons. The events correspond to a special theme, that's annually chosen.
