Professional Speakers Celebration Day Date in the current year: March 14, 2024

Professional Speakers Celebration Day Professional Speakers Celebration Day is observed annually on March 14. It was created to recognize and celebrate the work of professional speakers worldwide, highlighting their amazing talent, knowledge, and experience.

Public speakers, also known as orators, are people who deliver speeches on a subject before a live audience with the main objective of informing or changing the audience’s thoughts and actions. Professional speakers do public speaking for a living; they are highly skilled orators with an established expertise who deliver speeches before varied audiences at a wide range of events including, but not limited to, conventions, conferences, summits, seminars and workshops, exhibitions and expos, retreats, etc.

Some professional speakers specialize in delivering keynote speeches at various conferences and other professional events, some are primarily motivational speakers, and some do public speaking for business and commercial events. However, regardless of their main focus, all professional speakers share their expertise and experience with the audience, educating people and/or helping shape their opinion on certain topics. They are the driving force behind many important cultural and social movements due to their ability to persuade and inspire people.

Professional Speakers Celebration Day was launched in 2023 by the Global Speakers Federation (GSF). Officially established in 1998 as the International Federation for Professional Speakers, the GSF unites independent professional associations representing speakers from Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Latin America, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Africa, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries and regions.

March 14 has been chosen as the date of the holiday because it also Pi Day, the annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (3.14), and the word “pi” ties into the motto of Cavett Robert, the co-founder of the United States National Speakers Association (one of the four founding members of the GSF): “Don’t worry about how we divide up the pie. There is enough for everybody. Let’s just make a bigger pie!”

By celebrating Professional Speakers Celebration Day, members of the GSF intend to recognize the work of the current members of the federation, showcase their talent, experience and insight, draw the attention of potential members, promote recognition of the role and value of professional speakers among the general public, and strengthen the global speaker community by bringing national associations together.

Professional Speakers Celebration Day is marked by a variety of events organized by the GSF, its member associations, and other stakeholders. One of the easiest ways to get involved is to learn more about what professional speakers do and why their profession is important, and spread awareness on social media with the hashtags #ProfessionalSpeakersDay, #SpeakersDay and #ProudToSpeak.
