World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development Date in the current year: May 21, 2024

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is currently held on May 21 every year. The observance was created by the United Nations in 2002.

Following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, UNIESCO issued and adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity. The UN General Assembly declared May 21 to be World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development (also known as Diversity Day) by its resolution 57/249.

Observance of this holiday is aimed to help different communities understand the importance of cultural diversity and learn how to live together in harmony. The events organized by the member states governments encourage people and organizations around the world to create some actions to support cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and inclusion and understand that intercultural interaction creates social, environmental and economic pillars of sustainable development. Combating the polarization stereotypes improves understanding of each other and cooperation among people from different cultures.
