International Day of Yoga Date in the current year: June 21, 2024

International Day of Yoga International Day of Yoga, also known as International Yoga Day, is annually observed on June 21. This observance was established by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014.

Before June 21 was declared International Yoga Day, numerous formal and informal groups of yoga teachers celebrated World Yoga Day on different dates, that were not connected with the current date. In 2011 international yoga Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar gave a call to the UN to declare World Yoga Day on June 21.

Proclamation of this observance was supported by representatives from more that 170 member states, including China, Canada and the USA. This is the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any of the UN Resolutions of such nature!

Celebration of International Yoga Day highlights the importance of this philosophy for better and healthier lifestyle of any person and nation. Yoga is one of the best practices, that can be used for implementation of global long-term health programs. Dissemination of information about yoga and benefits of its practicing among people helps them understand this philosophy.
