World Hydrography Day Date in the current year: June 21, 2024

World Hydrography Day June 21 is World Hydrography Day. Annual celebration of this holiday emphasizes importance of hydrography particularly in protection of marine reserves and promotion of safe navigation in international waters and ports.

The idea of creation of World Hydrography Day belongs to the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). It was established in 1921 as the International Hydrographic Bureau and used as a mechanism, consulting governments on matters of technical standards, protection of marine environment, safe navigation etc. The concept of the holiday was adopted in 2005, ant the United Nations General Assembly welcomed it in its resolution A/RES/60/30.

Annual celebration of World Hydrography Day is organized under a certain theme, which is determined by the member states of IHO. Number of activities corresponding to the theme of celebration are organized worldwide. These activities include public events, demonstrations, workshops, seminars, conferences, lectures, awards, dinners and distribution of promotional materials.
