International Anti-Corruption Day Date in the current year: December 9, 2024

International Anti-Corruption Day International Anti-Corruption Day is an annual event organized by the UN on December 9. This observance was established in 2003, when the United Nations Convention against Corruption was adopted by the UN General Assembly.

The issue of corruption is known in every country around the world. This political, economic and social phenomenon threatens and undermines democratic institutions, contributes governmental instability and slows down economic development.

Observance of International Anti-Corruption Day raises public awareness of the problems of bureaucracy and corruption and promotes international cooperation on technical assistance in more effective and efficient fight against corruption.

Every year the United Nations chooses a special theme of the observance and launches a campaign against corruption, totally reflecting the current theme. One of the themes, Your NO Counts, received a wide-spread coverage during 2009 and 2010. It helped raise public awareness about corruption and ways how everyone can fight it. This camping also encouraged people say “No” to the corruption in all its forms.
