Father’s Day in Bulgaria Date in the current year: December 26, 2024

Saint Joseph was the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Christian tradition views him as the foster father of Jesus, who provided the son of God with care and protection. That is why Saint Joseph is regarded as the patron saint of fathers.

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors Saint Joseph on the Sunday following Christmas (December 25), but Father's Day is traditionally celebrated on the day after Christmas, December 26.

Father's Day is the day set aside for honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood. On this day, Bulgarian children present their fathers with small handmade gifts and greeting cards to express their love and gratitude. As the day after Christmas is a public holiday, most fathers spend the day with their family.

In fact, many Bulgarians celebrate Father's Day twice a year, on the second day of Christmas and on the third Sunday in June, which is Father's Day in the United States and many other countries. The second celebration is widely seen as a “Hallmark Holiday”.
