Public Prosecutors’ Day in Turkmenistan Public Prosecutors’ Day is an official professional holiday in Turkmenistan. It was established in 2017, when President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow signed a decree containing a new list of non-bank holidays and commemorations observed in Turkmenistan.

The work of all public prosecutors in Turkmenistan is coordinated by the Prosecutor General’s Office. The Office is responsible for supervising the exact and uniform observance of state laws, presidential decrees and resolutions of the Mejilis (the Assembly of Turkmenistan). As of 2018, the Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan is Batyr Atdayew. Before assuming the office, he served as Deputy Prosecutor General and Vice President of the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the Prosecutor General’s Office and its subordinate offices play a crucial role in protecting the rights of citizens and national interests, maintaining law and order, and facilitating the formation of a democratic and rule-of-law state. In one of his official addresses, the Turkmen leader stressed that the main duty of public prosecutors is to ensure the rule of law and to improve the legal literacy of the population.

On the occasion of Public Prosecutors’ Day, the President of Turkmenistan issues an official congratulations message to the country’s public prosecutors. The most distinguished prosecutors receive money rewards, diplomas and special awards.
