Engineer’s Day in Taiwan Date in the current year: June 6, 2024
Taiwan is one of the most economically developed states in Asia, as well as the largest economy that is not a member of the United Nations. As the economy of Taiwan is largely science and technology based, people who have higher education related to science or engineering are in demand in the Taiwanese labor market.
Engineering encompasses a broad range of specialized fields that deal with the creative application of science, mathematics, and empirical evidence to the innovation, design, construction, operation and maintenance of materials, structures, machines, devices, processes, systems, and organizations. The “Big 4” branches of engineering are chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering, but beyond them, many other branches are recognized.
Engineering is one of the most popular majors among Taiwanese university students. The list of the 50 most popular majors in Taiwanese universities includes 11 engineering-related majors: electrical engineering, information technology, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, civil engineering, chemical and material engineering, communications engineering, chemical engineering, architectural engineering, and computer engineering. Over 25% of all bachelor’s degrees in Taiwan are engineering degrees.
