Migration Service Employees Day in Turkmenistan Date in the current year: April 17, 2024

Migration Service Employees Day in Turkmenistan Migration Service Employees Day is an official professional holiday in Turkmenistan. It was declared in 2017 by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. The holiday is celebrated on April 17 to commemorate the establishment of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan is one of the world’s least accessible nations due to its restrictive visa regime with all countries. To obtain a tourist visa for Turkmenistan, all foreign nationals are required to supply a letter of invitation issued by a travel agency licensed in Turkmenistan. Besides, a special permit issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is required to visit certain places.

With such a restrictive visa policy, there is no wonder that the State Migration Service is considered one of the most important government agencies in Turkmenistan. It was established in 2003 by President Saparmurat Niyazov as the State Service of Turkmenistan for Registration of Foreign Citizens.

The agency was transformed into the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan on April 17, 2008. It is responsible for the functioning of the country’s migration system, implementation of the state migration policy outlined in the Law on Migration that came into effect in 2012, and adherence to international migration agreements.
