Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day Date in the current year: June 27, 2024

Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day is a United Nations international observance held annually on June 27. It was officially inaugurated in April 2017 by the UN General Assembly by its resolution 71/279.

The resolution was introduced by the delegation of Argentina, whose representative stated that over 95% of the world’s enterprises are micro-, small- and medium-sized. They account for about 60% of private sector employment. In developing countries, it is such enterprises that can become the engines that sustain long-term economic growth and sustainable development. The initiative of the delegation of Argentina was supported by the International Council for Small Businesses.

The United Nations General Assembly Adopted the resolution without a vote and inaugurated Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day. The Day aims to emphasize the importance of such enterprises for sustainable development, in particular in promoting decent work for all, creativity and innovation.

Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day focuses on raising public awareness about the contribution of these enterprises to sustainable development. On June 27, UN Member States, various international and regional organizations, as well as civil society observe the day by organizing policy discussions, practitioner workshops, meetings with business owners, and other relevant events and activities.
